Between Up and Down

In the environment of vertical civilization with concrete forest, a critical height of broken reinforced concrete floods over the view of the horizon, changing the bumpy ride of the rapidly rising and descending elevators to create distance from the inner source value. Our sacred perceptions slowly degenerate, which is the enormous power of nature, spatial imagination, and vision. Removed from magical perceptive awareness, we are powerless and wander around the other real worlds, to perceive the position, state, phenomenon, and pose of objects. Our physical cognition is confused, as there are no rules or instructions. The work extracts a fragmented symbol of human body—feet; the pictorial symbol, in its fragmented form, symbolically represents the human body within this spatial site of steel structure. Through welding by machinery and electrical power, the stainless steel presents a visual sensation of converging and skipping droplets. It also creates contrast with the iron material surrounding the steel structure, so that the color of stainless steel further expresses its hardness and primitivity. The work is suspended in the exhibition venue, and motor has been installed, it is capable of ascending and descending, as if riding an elevator. The material’s own mass further facilitates audience’s construction of the image of the complete human body within own system of symbols, and deduction of the elevator’s alibi.
