About the work
Conceived from the image of farmers plowing fields by hand, the artist uses industrial means to replicate and interconnect the images of farmers to create a modern piece of steel art reminiscent of Chinese landscape painting. The hollowed outlines combine with the surroundings, framing the idyllic landscape within them. The piece serves as a reminder to visitors that their purpose for travelling to Yilan, Taiwan’s backyard garden, is to enjoy the beautiful countryside scenery as well as to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It also aims to evoke a deeper reflection on culture, which is a yearning for the beauty of a “second nature,” or nature modified by humans.
